Wow (note sarcasm) it turns out it is big news that our over eating might just be in our head. He says, coaches teach people how to eat mindfully. Do we really need a coach for this?

Nothing new about the mind body connection for weight issues. But what is nice to see, is the importance of paying attention to what we are thinking and how it affects our body.

At a recent family brunch I noticed how we all sat down and began to gulp our food like we had not eaten for days. Some habits are hard to break, but this one was easy. I suggested that we all enjoy our food and breathe between bites, and actually put our fork down for every bite. Knowing that you should do this is nothing new! But doing it is another thing entirely.

We ate half as much as we would have, and easily stopped eating since our brain got the message.

  1. I read “My Stroke of Insight” in one sitting – I couldn’t put it down. I laughed. I cried. It was a fantastic book (I heard it’s a NYTimes Bestseller and I can see why!), but I also think it will be the start of a new, transformative Movement! No one wants to have a stroke as Jill Bolte Taylor did, but her experience can teach us all how to live better lives. Her TED.com speech was one of the most incredibly moving, stimulating, wonderful videos I’ve ever seen. Her Oprah Soul Series interviews were fascinating. They should make a movie of her life so everyone sees it. This is the Real Deal and gives me hope for humanity.
